This was a portion of a larger painting - I wasn't happy with the overall look and as the sugar bowl was the main subject of the painting ... I trimmed the edges down and re-framed the painting with a double mount.
Another oil on board, framed and for sale.

Still playing with flat colour - another view of Appledore from Instow beach, this time with a sunset. 'Instow at Sunset' - Acrylic on paper
My favourite local spot, by the sea - just playing around, trying a more graphic representation. Think I might add one or two seagulls to the sky area! 'Instow' - Acrylic on paper
Working on a commission at the moment, and for a while, back to more detailed work!
I'm working with acrylics and have put down the basic colours as a starting point, adding a little detail to the eyes. The garden and countryside are just beginning to emerge from their winter dormancy, with drifts of the ever lovely, snowdrop.
Not a snowdrop painting this time, but one I have just finished. I took a photo of these 'dahlias in pot', last autumn - making a note of colours, for reference. The true colour values seem to get lost sometimes in photos For some reason I forgot to photograph this one before framing. It's an oil on board, the same as the others, but I decided to try framing it with a mount. I've really enjoyed painting the beach scenes at Instow and I'm sure there's more to come! 'High & Dry at Instow' - oil on board
Replaced the frame on this painting ... and I think it works better. I painted this a couple of years ago, when we had a brilliantly colourful autumn, which seemed to last for several weeks. This autumn seems to be slowly and gracefully moving through the hues. 'Autumn Colours', Rolle Road, Torrington Commons - oil on board, in bespoke, hand painted frame.
These two original paintings are currently on display, along with other artists work - at the RHS gardens, Rosemoor, near Great Torrington north Devon - in the annual, September 'Open Art Exhibition' ..... the exhibition runs for another week. |
