I hadn't given any thought to what duck this was, until I started preparing the canvas - but I'm pretty sure it's a 'ruddy' duck ... strangely enough the first print I bought, as a young girl, was a painting by Sir Peter Scott of this very bird! .... well not this duck obviously but of a 'ruddy' duck at Slimbridge Wildfowl Reserve.
I have a few unpainted canvasses lying around ... so thought I would have a break from the small study and work on a larger painting. Have been meaning to do this painting for some time; of a duck with water patterns. Bought this little sugar bowl from a National Trust shop in Norfolk; we don't normally buy anything from their shops as they're so expensive, but it was a sad occasion, as we had gone up for sister-in-laws funeral ... well you know how it is, just needed that little treat. Anyway it's more decorative than useful .... and I had these 'forget-me-not' flowers growing in the garden. 'Sugar Bowl & Forget-Me-Nots' - Oil on board 8" x 6"
This is one I did a while ago with the last of the camellias in the garden. I had trouble with oiling out ... where the oil in the paint had sunk into the board leaving visible dull patches in the painting. I chose this caddy to go with the camellia, as the tea plant is a genus (if that's the correct term) of the camellia family. The tea caddy was my mothers and I remember her using it, along with a lovely caddy spoon ... which seems to have got lost over the years. Tea Caddy & Camellia. Oil on board.
