Finished the commission .... and the duck painting I was working on a while ago, is finished and framed. Unfortunately the photo does not do it justice!
Well it's that time of year again ... with Christmas just around the corner, things are hectic with the framing business.

Last few weeks I have been working on a commission. In between ... just having fun with small landscape. 'Across the valley from Castle Hill' - Oil on Board 'Across the valley from Castle Hill' - Oil on Board
Cherries framed and ready for display. You can see them at Torrington Framing - Great Torrington, Devon .... along with my other still life paintings. www.torringtonframing.co.uk 'Two's Company' - Oil on Board Cherry painting framed and on display.
Always look forward to the English cherry season ..... both eating and painting ...... yummy! 'Two's Company' - Oil on Board
Framing work load at shop ... holiday break .... and just running out of Titanium White have all contributed to a lack of painting and subsequently no blogs over the last month. Here are some pink roses from the garden, which I actually painted last year. 'Pink Roses & Blue Bowl' - Oil on board.
Just had a thought about latest painting in progress .... thought there was an underlying emotional attachment to the subject matter; being a 'ruddy' duck and all that ........ but I think it's more to do with the lousy wet weather we're enduring at the moment ...... and it's a case of - ' if you can't beat them join them' syndrome!
I have a few unpainted canvasses lying around ... so thought I would have a break from the small study and work on a larger painting. Have been meaning to do this painting for some time; of a duck with water patterns. I hadn't given any thought to what duck this was, until I started preparing the canvas - but I'm pretty sure it's a 'ruddy' duck ... strangely enough the first print I bought, as a young girl, was a painting by Sir Peter Scott of this very bird! .... well not this duck obviously but of a 'ruddy' duck at Slimbridge Wildfowl Reserve. Bought this little sugar bowl from a National Trust shop in Norfolk; we don't normally buy anything from their shops as they're so expensive, but it was a sad occasion, as we had gone up for sister-in-laws funeral ... well you know how it is, just needed that little treat. Anyway it's more decorative than useful .... and I had these 'forget-me-not' flowers growing in the garden. 'Sugar Bowl & Forget-Me-Nots' - Oil on board 8" x 6"
This is one I did a while ago with the last of the camellias in the garden. I had trouble with oiling out ... where the oil in the paint had sunk into the board leaving visible dull patches in the painting. I chose this caddy to go with the camellia, as the tea plant is a genus (if that's the correct term) of the camellia family. The tea caddy was my mothers and I remember her using it, along with a lovely caddy spoon ... which seems to have got lost over the years. Tea Caddy & Camellia. Oil on board.
The last ... well nearly last of our primroses. I have this, cut glass posy vase that I've been wanting to use in a painting and I thought the delicate little primroses would be ideal. Primroses in Cut Glass Posy Vase. Oil on Board
