The camellia in the garden are just finishing flowering. Some people dislike camellias', but as they grow so well in our heavy clay soil and flower so early in the year ... it seems a shame not to make the most of them. 'Camellia in jam jar' - oil on board. 8" x 6"
Something more topical. I normally only buy just the one bunch of daffs at a time, but on this occasion I splashed out and bought a couple - filling the vase. When they had fully opened, I just loved the sheer froth of soft yellow spilling out over the edges of the vase, bringing a little brightness to a dull winters day. Still life - 'Daffodils in Glass Vase'. Oil on board 10" x 8"
This is one of two paintings I did back in the autumn, but have only just managed to get them varnished and now working on the frames. This has a freer and more modern style, though I didn't set out to paint it that way - I just went with the flow. Sometimes a painting takes you down a completely different road from the one planned .... and I just love it. Still Life - 'Blackberry & Apple' 6" x 5"
This was the last of the roses to flower in the garden. They hung on until December and then when frost was forecast; I had to pick this one to paint.. I find pink flowers difficult to get just right; it may be the colour of pink I'm using, and the right colour for the background is difficult to judge. This was the second attempt, but I will keep trying as there are so many gorgeous pink flowers out there - peonies immediately spring to mind, though I don't have any in the garden - I can see a trip to the garden centre in spring is a must. Last of the roses. in hand painted frame.
Bought this little brass and copper jug on a trip to Brittany, the warm tones looked just lovely with the cherries.
We have three wild cherry blossom trees growing close to the house and it was a bumper year for cherries .... which were soon devoured by the jackdaws, wood pigeons and blackbirds. Very delighted - sold three of my still life paintings at RHS Rosemoor's 'Artists Garden Exhibition'.
Primrose painting framed in bespoke - hand painted frame and new painting of single yellow rose ... also in hand painted frame.
